At Wonderland Tree Care + Landscapes, we believe that natural pruning is best for most applications. We hand prune to reveal the branch work within the shrub. This creates a very attractive shape and promotes dense foliage and good health.
Different shrubs need pruning at different times of the year depending on species, desired aesthetics, their location in your landscape, size restrictions based on location and desired flowering schedules.
A sample seasonal-pruning schedule includes:
Renewal pruning of deciduous shrubs and containment pruning of evergreen shrubs late winter through early spring
Maintenance pruning or seasonal trimming to maintain shrub size late spring through early summer
Prune select flowering trees, such as Crape Myrtle, late summer to promote a second bloom cycle
Specialty pruning of large hedges and evergreen screening in fall
General landscape pruning, ornamental tree structural pruning and young shade-tree structural pruning in winter
Many clients find natural looking shrubs more appealing than the sheared shrubs they thought they wanted. After all, it is hard to improve on nature’s own design. Although, if you do want a geometrical look, say, for a formal hedge, our certified arborists will manage the necessary shearing in a way that doesn’t compromise the plant’s health.
If you do have shrubs that have been damaged, our arborists can prune them for rejuvenation, a special-care technique that can be highly effective.
